Keeping it simple: Everything you need to know about the new unemployment insurance scheme

You’ve probably already heard about the new guidelines announced by the Ministry of Human Resources last week. If you haven’t, here’s what you need to know!

It is now mandatory for all Emirati nationals and expats working within the private sector to subscribe to the new unemployment insurance scheme - and you must do this before June 30, 2023.

The scheme offers support for any employee who becomes unexpectedly unemployed, offering 60% of your basic salary for up to three months from the first date of unemployment - capped at AED20,000 a month.

How do I subscribe and what does this involve?

Simply click this link and fill in the online application to subscribe to the scheme.

Or you can also subscribe through Insurance Pool, ATMs and kiosk machines, business service centres, money exchange branches, Du and Etisalat centres or via SMS.

The monthly subscription fee for a basic salary of AED16,000 and under is AED5, and any salary above this AED10 - subscription can be paid on a monthly or yearly basis.

Deadline: June 30, 2023

Non-compliance fine: AED400

Missing instalment payment fine: AED200

Who can't apply?: Freezone employees, investors/company owners, domestic helpers, temporary contract workers, juveniles and retirees.
