The Godiva Festival is one of the best things about living in the city - and the sheer size, scale, and quality of this free event always surprises those who have just bought a property for sale in Coventry.
The Godiva Festival is billed as the UK’s biggest free family music festival and is now in its 17th year. Details of 2015's event have been released, confirming the festival will run from the 3rd to the 5th of July, based in the city’s historic War Memorial Park.
Once again, festival organisers are asking local artists to audition to become part of the weekend's programme of music events. The Godiva Calling competition is open to performers living in CV postcodes, although there are some changes this year, with a brand new genre and new venues too.
Acts must perform original material but this year's Godiva Calling is also open to signed bands to increase the pool of talent. There will be two overall winners securing their slot at the Godiva Festival – with the first-place winner also being offered recording time.
Cllr Abdul Khan, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure, Sports, Parks and Events, said: “This year’s competition for local musicians should be the best one yet, with some key changes to ensure that we represent fairly the diversity of talent in different types of music across Coventry and Warwickshire, along with a very exciting new addition - the Comedy and The Spoken Word category.
The Coventry Godiva Festival has long proven itself to be a fantastic opportunity for local bands to showcase their talents on the big stage and we are actively looking for them to put their names forward to see if they can win through to a slot at the festival. I’m sure that the standard will be high and that once again it will be a close and exciting competition. I wish everyone the very best of luck.”
