A wheel deal: RTA announces two new 7 km cycling tracks!

Fancy yourself as an avid cyclist?

Well dust off your helmet, as the RTA has announced two new cycling tracks in some of Dubai’s biggest residential communities - Al Khawaneej, and Mushrif.

Everything you need to know:

Calling out our Mushrif and Al Khawaneej friends, the first track will start at Qur’anic Park on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and will go all the way down to Al Khawaneej Street.

Then, it’ll cross over the street using a bridge, that's for both pedestrians and cyclists, so dog-walkers and runners are welcome! After that, it joins up with the current cycling track that’s present in the Mushrif area.

As for the second track, it’ll start near Crocodile Park in Mushrif Park and go towards Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street.

From there, it heads north along the street until it reaches Al Khawaneej Street. Then, it crosses the street using another bridge for pedestrians and cyclists, this time on Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, and connects with the cycling track in Al Khawaneej.

This would come around in full circle, making each track 7 km long, and guaranteeing easy and safe connectivity for our cyclists in town.

Now, about that 1,000km track:

Mattar Al Tayer, who heads up the RTA, shared Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision to make the city more bike-friendly. This initiative also supports Dubai's Urban Plan 2040, aiming to make Dubai the best city to live in globally - which we already are, but no harm in staying on top, am I right!

Now as we know, expanding the cycling tracks is part of RTA's bigger plan to create more areas for walking and cycling throughout Dubai, promoting a more active-culture throughout the city and encouraging easier connectivity for residents.

With these new additions in Mushrif and Al Khawaneej, the total length of cycling tracks reach up to 39 km. Mattar Al Tayer also shared that these tracks are part of a larger plan to expand the cycling network in Dubai, with a goal to reach 1,000 km of cycling tracks by 2030. The plan includes connecting key districts like Jumeirah, Al Sufouh, and Marina to external tracks in Al Qudra, Saih Al Salam, and Nad Al Sheba via Al Barsha, Dubai Hills, and Nad Al Sheba districts.

Pretty cool right?
