Lunar New Year: Where to celebrate the Year of the Dragon in Dubai?

If you’ve been around town spotting red themed fireworks, or sales trending across the malls - that’s because the loved and anticipated Year of the Dragon and Lunar New Year have made their way to town!

This year will be the Year of the Dragon in China, which is a symbol of success, intelligence and honour in Chinese culture. Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. It is the most important holiday in China, and it is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, and countries with a significant overseas Chinese population.

Mark your calendars for Saturday 10th February for the Lunar New Year and, in true Dubai style, there will be fireworks, rapid deals and some incredible dinner places to check out to catch on the occasion.

Where to: Experience the fireworks show?

China - Global Village

Everyone in Dubai enjoys taking world tours through the beloved Global Village.

So, pop on over to China in Global Village to experience a stunning display of red fireworks to celebrate the Lunar New Year, throughout the weekend running 9th - 11th February.

Not to mention, all the stores and stalls will be displaying an incredible array of bites that are specially chosen for the occasion, so thi is a great way to explore authentic Chinese sweets and street food!

Dubai Parks and Resorts

If you’re purely looking for a firework show, and a stunning parade for the kids, or maybe just to update your gram - Head on over to Riverland in Dubai Parks and Resorts.

Check out the fireworks that will light up the sky, followed by the park's daily laser shows. There will also be dragon and lion dances throughout February at the park, and a special parade running through!

Dubai Festival City Mall

By the water, you can experience a dynamic light and water show, coupled with fireworks to celebrate the Lunar New Year in Dubai Festival City Mall.

But wait, there’s more to the celebration - You have the chance to win AED 10,000 when you get a AED 300 gift card.

Chinatown - Dubai Mall

The best way to explore and enjoy the Lunar New Year is from exploring the city’s Chinese hub in Dubai Mall.

And ofcourse, step outside and at the Downtown Fountain, you could find the fountain in theme, surrounded by cultural music, Bruj Khalifa lit up in a light show - all to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

Not to mention, Chinatown is surrounded by an array of restaurants, traditional supermarkets and stores - there are multiple deals on dining offers running throughout the week.

Where to: Wine and dine at the Lunar New Year

Hutong - DIFC

Hutong got the memo, as their flair screams Year of the Dragon with festive delicacies to go around.

Featuring standout dishes like the flaming Peking duck and the delectable lobster Lao He and a vibrant array of festive dim sum while a mesmerising dragon show takes place!

It starts at AED 288, goes up to AED 488 and it’s worth it!

Ling Ling - Atlantis The Royal

While we all have come to love the stunning ATlantis The Royal, there’s no denying Ling Ling has stolen the spotlight with its tantalising bites and incredible drinks.

For Lunar New Year, they’ve stepped up a notch, with a selection of special dishes starting from AED 105. Bite into salmon sashimi with yuzu dressing, lobster prawn toast and luscious lobster longevity noodles, and finish with bespoke mixed drinks crafted exclusively for this occasion!

Moli by SHI - Dubai Hills

Already known as one of Dubai’s best Chinese restaurants’, they have definitely set the theme for Lunar New Year with a four-course set menu featuring dim sums, corn fed chicken, and an especially crafted luck cat dessert.

To complete dinner, Lion Dancers, and live entertainment will be the perfect experience to end with! Oh, and the best part? Everyone gets a complimentary fortune cookie and a voucher to revisit the restaurant!
