Last year, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority raised the bar by announcing over AED 400 million in projects set to ease traffic congestion around the city!
Be it building new roads, introducing a brand-new line on the metro system, digitising the entire water transportation system, or even creating a completely new lane for buses to ease traffic - no stone was left unturned.
So far in 2024, Dubai has managed to take this to the next level as RTA announced an AED 332 million project to revamp Umm Suqeim Street, followed by an announcement of a 1.6km tunnel to ease traffic across Al Khaleej Street down from Infinity Bridge, and to conclude with (we thought) a new exit in Dubai Marina - but now, we’ve got one more!
RTA’s newest exit is going to effectively ease traffic congestion on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road near Mirdif City Centre. Thanks to recent improvements, you can now drive from Mirdif to Business Bay Crossing in just four minutes!
The RTA's newest project is focused on expanding Exit 55 on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, which leads to Al Rebat Street. This expansion is part of a larger strategy to improve traffic flow and safety throughout Dubai.
The project is going to span over a 600-metre stretch where the traffic overlap distance will be increased, and an additional lane is going to be added, bringing the total to three lanes. These enhancements will significantly improve the driving experience for thousands of commuters.
By increasing the exit’s capacity from 3,000 to 4,500 vehicles per hour, there will be a 50% boost and reduction in traffic congestion. As a result, travel time from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Rebat Street towards Business Bay Crossing has dropped from 10 minutes to just four!
This initiative is one of many in RTA’s extensive traffic improvement plan for 2024, covering 45 locations across Dubai.
The goal is to accommodate the city’s growing number of vehicles and residents while enhancing the overall quality of life. Projects like these are crucial to ensuring smoother commutes and safer roads.
The expansion of Exit 55 also comes in line with the RTA’s commitment to upgrading Dubai’s infrastructure.
