In a vibrant and spirited show of solidarity, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is turning October into Pink October, marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The UAE has rolled out a diverse range of events and initiatives aimed at creating awareness about breast cancer and offering support to women in the country. Of course, all of them are free to encourage medical examinations and raise awareness.

Did you know, breast cancer has been on the rise in the UAE, particularly among women over the age of 40? According to the Cancer Incidence in the UAE annual report, it has seen the fastest increase over the past decade. In 2020 alone, 1030 women were diagnosed with breast cancer, underscoring the significance of early detection and awareness.

To address this critical issue, the UAE is hosting a series of events and campaigns throughout Pink October. Here's what you can expect:

The Pink Caravan

The Friends of Cancer Patients’ (FOCP) breast cancer initiative, known as The Pink Caravan, is spearheading this effort. They're hosting over 90 events across the UAE. These events include free mammograms, clinical breast examinations, wellness programs, and awareness sessions. How incredible is that?

For female UAE residents above 40 years of age, who are not pregnant or breastfeeding and have not undergone a mammogram in the last two years, free screenings are available at The Pink Caravan mobile clinics across all emirates.

Even women aged 20 and above, regardless of UAE residency, can avail walk-in clinical breast examinations at these minivan clinics.

Here's the complete schedule for The Pink Caravan's Mobile Clinic’s upcoming events:

- October 19: Shangri La Hotel, Dubai from 4-6 p.m.

- October 27: Global Village, Dubai from 5-10 p.m.

- October 28: Al Habtoor Polo Club, Dubai from 2-6 p.m., and Global Village from 5-10 p.m.

- October 30: City Walk, Dubai from 4-10 p.m.

IGNITE Pink is Punk

In collaboration with the Al Jalila Foundation, the NGO - IGNITE has organised charity activities to raise money for its breast cancer awareness initiative, 'Pink is Punk.' These activities include a Pink Paddle event on October 21st, starting at 6AM on the waters of Palm Jumeirah.

Umm Al Emarat Park

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Umm Al Emarat Park in Abu Dhabi will be glowing in pink throughout October. How beautiful is this?

The park is organising a blood donation drive on October 19th from 4PM to 9PM, with a bus stationed at the park's main gate. Moreover, SEHA will host a Breast Cancer Awareness booth, offering free mammogram check ups from 4PM to 10PM, right across from the park's entrance.

You can also hear inspiring stories from breast cancer survivors and participate in the Pink October Walkathon, which begins at 5PM on the day.

Liht Organics

Liht Organics, an award-winning organic makeup brand, is organising three masterclasses in October.

These sessions will be held at the Dubai Hills Mall, Mall of the Emirates, and Yas Mall on October 27 from 2PM to 3PM. These masterclasses will raise awareness about the harmful effects of cancer-causing chemicals in makeup.

Additionally, in partnership with Zulekha Hospital, Liht Organics is offering free breast cancer screenings and consultations with general surgeons or oncologists throughout October and November.

How impressive is this?

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a time to reflect, support, and unite against this prevalent disease. These initiatives in the UAE are not only about creating awareness but also about offering practical support and encouraging early detection. Together, we can improve the chances of survival and make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

So, let's paint October pink and raise awareness about this important cause. Our team at Allsopp & Allsopp in support of breast cancer awareness celebrated with a PINK DAY, where we discussed the importance of breast cancer awareness, flaunted our favourite pink wardrobe and encouraged the importance of self medical examinations!
