The GPCI 2023 is compiled by the Mori Memorial Foundation’s Institute for Urban Strategies in Japan and measures a city's' 'magnetism". It also measures the city’s ability to attract people, capital, and enterprises. So, no surprise here that Dubai is on this list!

In this influential index, Dubai stands out as a beacon of attraction though, climbing three places to secure the eighth position worldwide, which is great!

A first win for the Middle East

This remarkable achievement not only places Dubai at the forefront of global cities but also marks it as the first city in the Middle East to receive this sort of recognition. So, really, this win was a big one!

The recognition underscores the city's magnetic appeal, driven by the visionary leadership and collective determination of its citizens and residents. Which is a given.

Dubai’s top categories for ranking

In the GPCI 2023, Dubai as always didn’t just excel in one but in several categories, earning the top position in:

• Corporate tax rate
• Workstyle flexibility
• Low unemployment rate
• City cleanliness

This exceptional performance also positions Dubai as a global leader in fostering a business-friendly environment, offering flexibility, and maintaining high standards of cleanliness.

A visionary perspective

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, was the first to celebrate this success and the importance of visionary leadership.

He highlighted that Dubai's achievements are a testament to the unwavering dedication to the vision of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.

Dubai’s growing commitment to excellence

Sheikh Hamdan urged both the private and public sectors in Dubai to persist in their efforts to establish the city as a sustainable development model.

He emphasised the government's commitment to achieving further milestones in global competitiveness indicators, fostering a knowledge and creative economy.

In addition to its overall ranking, Dubai has further retained its fourth position in Cultural Interaction for the second consecutive year. This recognition comes in line with how Dubai is a global centre for culture, creativity, and talent.

The GPCI has been published annually since 2008, and serves as a global benchmark for measuring the performance and competitiveness of cities. It is a crucial tool used by governments, businesses, and individuals for decisions related to investment, immigration, and travel.
