Dubai announces the first set of 3D-printed villas - and here’s everything we know!

If we sat to count the amount of milestones hit in Dubai’s property market, we might lose count. So, instead of backtracking, let us bring you up to speed on what’s new in the market and how this innovation is DEFINITELY set to revolutionise the market moving forward!

So, this week, Dubai has set a new milestone in the real estate market with the first 3D-printed villa, launched by Emaar Properties. Now, we all know sustainability has been at the forefront of real estate in Dubai for the last two years, coming in line with Dubai’s Urban Masterplan for 2040, and this innovative residential property showcases exactly that, with the city's commitment to embracing cutting-edge construction technologies.

Let’s dive into everything we know about this project…

Emaar Properties has collaborated with the Danish company; COBOD on this project and are utilising their advanced BOD2 printer, for Emaar's 3D-printed villa. This property is nestled in the Arabian Ranches III, and introduces a new era of non-traditional residential designs. These villas are set to boast three bedrooms, covering an area of 202 square metres, this villa acts as a testament to the architectural possibilities made achievable by additive manufacturing.

The project was originally constructed in 2019, and these homes featured intricate curved walls and expansive windows highlighting the flexibility and creativity that is usually offered by 3D printing compared to conventional building methods.

The recent public revelation for sustainability builds a rare opportunity for buyers to assess the current state of 3D concrete printing and consider its potential for widespread adoption in residential real estate. Even learn about 3D printing diving deep into it.

Henrik Lund-Nielsen, who is the Founder and General Manager at COBOD, shared his excitement about the project, that it goes beyond merely creating a house. He sees it as a pivotal moment in shaping the future of construction.

Many people have questioned the 3D-printed villa's long-term cost-effectiveness of this technology compared to traditional construction methods. However, the environmental benefits, including the reduction of construction waste and carbon emissions, make 3D printing an appealing prospect for a more sustainable approach to architecture. People are still curious about it when compared to traditional building methods.

Dubai has ambitious plans for the future, aiming for a quarter of all construction to be 3D-printed by 2030. The integration of smart systems from Xiaomi within the villa also serves as a testing ground for exploring how 3D printing can enhance home efficiency and interconnectivity.

While the sector faces uncertainties about modernising quickly enough to meet government targets, Dubai's 3D-printed villa stands as a symbol of progress and innovation in the ever-evolving world of real estate.
