Dubai, a city known for its unwavering commitment to innovation and progress, is once again making waves on the global stage.

This time around, the ambitious Dubai Green Spine project has been announced. It is set to be a transformative project aimed at converting the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311) into a 64 km long sustainable corridor.

From understanding what this visionary plan outlines, to unveiling just how this corridor will reshape the landscape for residents on the E311 highway - let us break down just everything we can expect!

Unveiling what’s behind the master plan!

The project is going to be spearheaded by URB and developed by its innovative research company - EPIC Lab.

This project is a core part of the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, as it seeks to revolutionise urban mobility in the city, elevate environmental and social standards, and accommodate the rising population growth in Dubai.

Solar-powered trams and renewable energy

Central to the Dubai Green Spine is the 100% solar-powered trams, which are going to be supported by a 300-megawatt solar energy system!

This is a clean energy initiative and it is designed to reduce the city's carbon footprint. With the main idea to promote a shift from car dependency to more sustainable modes of transport - The solar-powered trams will offer a green alternative to generic transportation.

A quantum leap in biodiversity!

The project also focuses on enhancing community and biodiversity through building various green spaces featuring animal habitats.

These areas are designed to add to the urban landscape and build safe environmental spaces to prioritise health and community well-being. Connected by extensive pedestrian and cycling paths, these green spaces will significantly enhance walkability and reduce reliance on cars.

By integrating nature into the urban environment, the Dubai Green Spine will create a more pleasant and healthier area.

In addition to its environmental initiatives, the Dubai Green Spine project will also include mixed-use developments that combine residential, commercial, and recreational spaces.
