Say goodbye to those traffic lights!

Just when we thought the city was going to cool down, ahead of the rains expected this week, the Roads Transport Authority announced that air taxis are finally making their way to Dubai, and just when can you take your first ride…

We are as excited as you, so let us break everything down!

The fleet of 10 new air taxis are coming on board!

Dubai's ambitious plans to elevate its transportation system are taking off—literally with how much RTA has been getting done this year.

The city is set to welcome a new fleet of private air taxis, aiming to make travel faster and more efficient and this is with the help of the Dubai-based private aviation operator, Air Chateau.

They have pre-ordered 10 Integrity eVTOLs (air taxis) from European developer CRISALION Mobility. These electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) taxis are designed to ease travel times across the city.

What to expect from the new air taxis

These air taxis, while they are still in development - are capable of carrying up to five passengers plus a pilot.

With speeds reaching up to 180 km/h, they will bring in a swift and sustainable alternative to ground transportation. The service is expected to launch in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi by 2030! So, by then we can expect to cut through those traffic signals!

Safety and innovation

The air taxis host FlyFree technology, which enables them to ease movement in all directions for enhanced safety and control. Unlike traditional helicopters with a single rotor, these taxis feature 16 motors, providing superior stability and manoeuvrability during flight.

Looking ahead

While 2030 might seem distant, RTA has plans to introduce traffic-busting flying taxis as early as 2025. These RTA flying taxis are developed by JOBY Aviation and are in the final testing phases in California and the UAE.

A ride in these air taxis is expected to cost no more than an Uber Black and will significantly reduce travel time across the city.

Now, isn’t that something?
