In a recent move to position itself as a leading global investment hub, the UAE has announced its National Investment Strategy 2031.

The goal is to triple the foreign direct investment balance to AED 2.2 trillion by the year 2031.

UAE’s key goals and progress

With this National Investment Strategy launched, Sheikh Mohammed highlighted the UAE's recent achievements, including a 35% rise in foreign direct investment to AED 112.6 billion in 2023, despite a global downturn in investments. The new strategy aims to double the collected foreign direct investment balance to AED 1.3 trillion while attracting investments in emerging sectors such as hospitality, tourism, and real estate.

Strategic focus areas

The strategy outlines five key directions to achieve its ambitious targets:

  1. Attracting new investments - The UAE plans to focus on critical areas like advanced manufacturing and renewable energy sectors that are set for growth in the coming years.

  2. Expanding foreign direct investment - By enhancing current projects with global standards, the UAE aims to maximise returns and create more opportunities for investors.

  3. Strengthening partnerships - The UAE plans to collaborate with other nations and organisations can open doors to new investment opportunities and innovation.

  4. Enhancing investor relations - Building strong relationships with investors will be essential for retaining and encouraging further investments.

  5. Boosting overall competitiveness - By improving the business environment and infrastructure, the UAE plans to enhance its attractiveness as an investment destination.

Recent achievements for the UAE

In 2023, the UAE ranked second globally for new foreign direct investment projects, launching 1,323 new initiatives. This resulted in a 33% increase over the previous year. The foreign direct investment balance has risen by 150% over the past decade, surpassing the global growth rate.

To further promote the UAE as a global investment hub, the InvestUAE brand was launched. This platform aims to enhance the UAE's international presence through campaigns, summits, and digital marketing efforts targeted at global investors.
