So when the opportunity arose to work with Cal Crutchlow, one of the most decorated British motorcycle racers of his generation, it felt like a natural fit.

Who is Cal Crutchlow?

Born in Coventry in 1985, Cal Crutchlow is a three-time MotoGP race winner and one of the most respected figures in motorcycle racing. Over a six-season stint with LCR Honda between 2015 and 2020, he recorded three victories, 19 podiums, and four pole positions. His first win, at Brno in 2016, was the team's maiden victory and the first for a British rider in the premier class since Barry Sheene in 1981 - a moment that cemented his place in MotoGP history.

He retired from full-time competition at the end of 2020, having peaked with a fifth-place championship finish in 2013, before moving into a test rider role with Yamaha. Most assumed his racing days were behind him.

The Comeback

Almost three years after his last race, Cal has been called back into action by his former LCR Honda team as a replacement for the injured Johann Zarco. Crutchlow has been clear that the decision to return was driven by his relationship with team boss Lucio Cecchinello rather than any desire to come back full-time - but that loyalty and professionalism only adds to our respect for him. He has described it as probably the hardest thing he has ever done in his life, returning to one of the most demanding sports in the world after such an extended period away.

After an early exit at Mugello, Crutchlow continued as Zarco's replacement at the Hungarian Grand Prix, showing the same determination that defined his career at its peak. Watching him take on that challenge - at 40, against the best riders in the world, on a bike that has evolved significantly since he last raced it - has been nothing short of inspiring.
