Top ways to observe World Mental Health Day

We know we all have those days, where we need a little pick me up or our minds feel like a slump.
It's often overlooked and we do not know when to step back and just take a breath. Well, at Allsopp & Allsopp, our team emphasises on the importance of observing World Mental Health Day, which is observed on October 10th each year. And it serves as a reminder of the importance of mental well-being.
It's a day to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage open conversations about mental health. This year, let's take a proactive approach to improve our mental well-being and support those around us.
Here are a few meaningful things you can do to observe World Mental Health Day.
Catch a breath
This goes without saying, we all need to just step back and catch a breath from life when things get too overwhelming. But apart from that, always remind yourself in times of crisis, a little deep breathing can go a long way.
And a reminder is - Don’t wait for World Mental Health Day to do this!
Take care of yourself
Make self-care a priority on this day and beyond. Dedicate time to activities that nurture your mental health, whether it's practising mindfulness, taking a long bath, or going for a nature walk.
Who doesn’t love a little me-time!
Reach out!
Connect with friends, family, or colleagues and ask how they're feeling.
Sometimes, a simple conversation can make a huge difference to someone's day, even as small as a smile.
If you know someone who may be struggling with their mental health, offer your support and lend a listening ear. Sometimes, all someone needs is someone to talk to and confide in. Be non-judgmental and compassionate.
On days such as World Mental Health Day, a lot of us could be feeling a mixed wave of emotions, and having a friend around can really help with that!
Practice gratitude
Feeling down?
It always helps to look back and be thankful for the things that make you happy, or have added light to your life. In negative times, these thoughts help cultivate a positive mindset.
Each day, write down things you're grateful for, no matter how small. Focusing on the positive aspects of life can boost your mood and resilience.
Focus on your physical wellbeing too
Did you know, engaging in regular physical activity is known to have numerous mental health benefits?
Whether it's yoga, jogging, or dancing, exercise releases endorphins that can help reduce stress and anxiety. Sometimes even a short stretch can go a long way or eating a delicious meal, which could stimulate endorphins.
Practice mindfulness
Learning mindfulness techniques can help you to stay present and reduce anxiety. Look out for apps, online courses, or guided meditations that can help you develop mindfulness skills that enhance your overall mental well-being.
Take a meditation class
If you feel like being amongst others and experiencing the joys of meditation, take a class. Not only would this stimulate positive endorphins in your brain, but would also help you reduce your stress and anxiety over time.
Pamper yourself
Sometimes all we need is a fresh set of nails, or a new haircut to feel good. On days as such, we love pampering ourselves, whether it’d be at the spa or the salon. Even a fresh coat of nail paint could make you feel like a new person!
Retail therapy
Therapy definitely has its benefits, but who doesn't love a little guilt-free shopping? Take yourself out, buy that bag or those shoes and don’t think twice, we all need that hit of dopamine and sometimes it can really make you feel incredible for weeks on end!
Hope this helps!
Oh, and another thing that could have you feeling over the moon could be - buying a new home!
