How is the RTA slashing traffic time across the city?

If you have been driving around, you might have noticed a lot of construction across major roads in Dubai, and wondering if the traffic has been increasing - well don’t panic - they're here to make our lives easier by expanding the road network across the city!

In case you missed it, last year we covered how RTA was working on the Quick Traffic Improvements Plan - which essentially aims to cut down traffic across many roads in Dubai and ease daily commutes.

Now out of 45 of those implementations, 14 have just been completed and you can rest assured that traffic is going to slash down to 50% nearly! Nearly… which is a lot!

Let us break down the roads you can start taking for an easier commute back home…

Notable upgrades across the city:

In case you didn’t check it out, one notable upgrade was the expansion of a free right exit from Al Asayel Street to Financial Centre Street toward Al Khail Road. This increased capacity and reduced travel time from Business Bay to Financial Centre Street from five minutes to just 60 seconds! See the difference a free right made?

What else, you might ask?

Other changes across the roads system include additional lanes on Al Fay Street, which was previously a two-laner. And this has reduced travel time in Dubai Production City and JGE by half, flat out! Also, in Dubai Marina, a free exit from Al Saba Street towards Garn Al Sabkha Street has cut travel time by almost an extra 10 minutes! Another free right making all the difference!

Now here’s the real game-changer; RTA has expanded exits and introduced more traffic light systems across exits - which has created a smooth flow for travellers. Next up - The exit from Al Rebat Street to Business Bay Crossing expanded from one lane to three lanes, eliminating long queues and tiresome traffic piles. And lastly, The Emirates Road exit towards Maliha Street intersection (Exit 71) widened from two lanes to three, increasing capacity from 4,000 to 6,000 vehicles per hour. - These exits are really making all the difference, aren’t they?

Throughout this year, we will keep on seeing more roads open up, covering key areas like Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Al Awir Street, Abu Baker Al Siddique Street, Al Rebat Street, Al Khail Road, and Al Meydan Street to ease congestion from both ways.

Hope this guide helps!
