RTA announces an AED 165 million plan to expand bridges across Sheikh Zayed Road.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way.
Although, Dubai doesn’t wait for a will to find a way and has already been working around the clock to expand the city’s massive network - it comes as no surprise that there is yet another road expansion coming along. This time around the Roads Transport Authority (RTA) has announced an AED 165 million plan to ease traffic congestion on Sheikh Zayed Road.
And here’s everything you need to know…
Dubai gets busy, roads get easy
In order to ease traffic around one of Dubai’s busiest malls, RTA plans to construct a new bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road and make several other improvements around Mall of the Emirates. This initiative has been carried out by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Ruler of Dubai, as he aims to significantly cut travel times all across Dubai.
The key feature of this project is a 300-metre bridge that will provide direct access to the Mall of the Emirates parking for drivers coming from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali.
This new route is expected to reduce travel time from 10 minutes to just one minute for anyone coming in that direction. Similarly, those travelling from Umm Suqeim will see their journey time to the mall halved from 15 minutes to just eight minutes.
Plus, the project includes resurfacing older road sections, by improving the bus station and enhancing pedestrian and cycle lanes. To make things even better - The rainwater drainage system and landscaped areas around the mall will also be upgraded.
The project will include improving surface roads extending 2.5 km around the mall, developing three signalised intersections, modifying the bus station at the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station, and converting the street next to the Kempinski Hotel from one-way to two-way. The improvements will cover paving, lighting, and traffic signals.
These upgrades are expected to greatly enhance the traffic flow and overall accessibility around the Mall of the Emirates, making travel smoother, especially in the Al Barsha area.
Impressive, isn’t it?
