COP28: Everything you need to know!

In the bustling city of Dubai, something new is always happening and this time around the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties, also known as COP28, is set to take place in Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12.

But what exactly is COP28, and why is it so important?

Let's break it down in simple terms.

What is COP28?

COP28 is a global event where leaders, officials, industry experts, and representatives from all over the world gather to discuss a very urgent topic: climate change. Imagine a huge gathering of decision-makers who come together to make key decisions about making the world a better place for its residents.

Why is COP28 happening?

It comes as no surprise that the world is getting warmer, and it's causing problems like extreme weather, melting ice, and rising sea levels, while also impacting the lives of many marine animals.

COP28 is like a giant brainstorming session to find solutions. The UAE is hosting this event to make sure that countries work together to fight climate change and come up with ways to make things better.

What will happen at COP28?

During the two-week event, people from different countries will talk about ways to combat global warming and how to adapt to the changes that are already happening. They will also discuss the "1.5°C temperature target." This target aims to limit the warming of the planet by a certain amount to prevent more climate issues.

Themes of COP28:

Technology & Innovation: Finding new and smarter ways to tackle climate change.

Inclusion: Making sure everyone, including different communities and countries, is part of the solution.

Frontline Communities: Helping those who are most affected by climate change.

Finance: Figuring out how to fund all the actions needed to fight climate change.

Here is the daily schedule:

November 30: Opening ceremony where UAE takes over as the host. Formal discussions about climate agreements and goals.

December 1-2: World Climate Action Summit with leaders and experts discussing strategies to fight climate change.

December 3: Focus on health, recovery, and helping areas affected by climate change.

December 4: Talks about money, trade, gender equality, and holding leaders accountable.

December 5: Discussions about reducing carbon emissions, creating clean energy, and dealing with pollution.

December 6: Leaders from local areas meet to plan climate actions. Emphasis on cities and urban life.

December 7: Rest day for everyone to take a break and recharge.

December 8: Focus on youth involvement, education, and empowering young people in climate action.

December 9: Talks about nature, land use, and oceans, and how they're linked to climate change.

December 10: Focus on how climate change affects food, water, and agriculture.

December 11-12: Final negotiations where leaders wrap up discussions and make important decisions.

In a nutshell, COP28 is a big meeting where people from all over the world talk about how to save our planet from the effects of climate change. It's a chance for countries to work together, come up with solutions, and create a better future for all of us.
